On the afternoon of June 16, Zhejiang chamber of commerce forum and Fortune Ningbo(Guangbo) summit was held in Ningbo. With the theme of Zhejiang private enterprises’ opportunities under the global financial crisis, the forum was co-sponsored by Zhejiang Business Association, Ningbo Business Association and China Business Times, and undertook by Zhejiang Guangbo Group. Long Yongtu, secretary-general of Boao Forum for Asia, Xu Guanju, vice-chairperson of province Political Consultative Conference and chairperson of provincial Chamber of Commerce, Guo Zhengwei, the deputy secretary of the Municipal Committee, Cui Xiulin, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the City and chairperson of the city’s Chamber of Commerce, attended the meeting.

Long Yongtu: the economy bottom out at the end of the year

At the meeting,secretary-general Long Yongtu made a speech on the opportunities for Zhejiang private enterprises under the global financial crisis. He thought, the impact of the global financial crisis on China's economy was mainly on the export. From the trend of world economy, countries around the world all adopted active and effective policies to stimulate the economy. At present, the world economy is heading in the positive direction. It’s not probable to have the second wave of financial tsunami. It’s unlikely to have the price surge of primary products with oil as the representative. It’s unlikely to have the global large-scale trade protectionism. Therefore, western world economy headed by the U.S. is expected to bottom out by the end of this year or at the start of next year, leading the world economy to pull out of the recession. In May, the U.S.’s retail sales had the monthly ring than for the first time during the past two years. This is the signal of American economy bottoming out, which is very favorable for Chinese export rising from the valley bottom.

So far this year, RMB exchange rate has been relatively stable, export rebate rate has been raised many times, plus the world economy gradually recovers, all of these are favorable for Zhejiang foreign trade to recommend a quick escape from the river of sludge. Long Yongtu thinks, Chinese economy is under developing stage, having the ability to restrain the wave. The impact of the global financial crisis on China's economy is temporary and can be reversible.

Xu Guanju: Zhejiang merchants should transform consciousness

“Zhejiang is the largest foreign trade province, mainly on light manufacturing. It mainly includes small-medium enterprises, fewer brand enterprises, lacking of the enterprises with independent intellectual property rights, not to mention core technology. Therefore, there always are some enterprises to be eliminated. Now that realizing this reality, we need to transform consciousness.” At the meeting, Xu Guanju, chairperson of provincial Chamber of Commerce, made a speech on strategic thinking of Zhejiang private enterprises.

He said, in the past, where there are opportunities, where there can earn money, there are Zhejiang merchants. Being good at grasping opportunities, thinking a lot of short-term interests, getting used to develop in the way of short, steady and fast, this has become Zhejiang merchants’ brand. Today, environment has undergone fundamental changes, pointing out higher requirements on building the enterprises' core competitiveness and the capability of sustainable development. We should change thinking inertia, from opportunity-oriented to strategy-oriented, from earning money to successful career, remoulding modern Zhejiang merchants’ brand. Scientificly make strategy plan. Actively set foot in various segmented industries. On brand, technique, scale and benefit, Zhejiang merchants should try to become the leader of this industry. In the process of pursuing careers, we shouldn’t be seduced by short-term benefits and opportunities, should stick to the long-term goal and direction.
